How to play the shelf-layout simulation — drag and drop, criteria and team mode.

Before you start

Get into your session in three steps. This part is the same for every simulation.

  1. Sign in. Log in at simana.tr with the username and password your organization gave you.
  2. Open the Simulations dashboard. Every simulation assigned to you appears as a card.
  3. Pick your card. Choose Start, Continue or View Results by its status — your progress saves automatically.

How to play

You are a category manager. You are given an empty shelf and a product library; you build the best layout by dragging products onto the shelf. Every layout is scored against commercial criteria at once, and shown with the reason for its score.

AreaWhat it holds
Left — Product LibraryThe products you can place on the shelf
Centre — ShelfThe shelf unit; you place products here
Right — ScoreTotal score, criteria breakdown, live scoreboard
  1. Place a product. Drag a product from the library onto the shelf; duplicate it to add facings.
  2. Rearrange. Drag a product elsewhere or remove it with the bin. The shelf will not let you exceed its physical width.
  3. Watch your score. Each change updates the score and criteria breakdown on the right; the rationale under each criterion tells you how to improve.
  4. See your rank. The live scoreboard compares you with the others; nobody sees your layout, only your score.
  5. Finish. Choose Complete Layout; in reference scenarios a comparison with the target opens.

What the criteria measure

CriterionWhat it measures
Eye LevelAre the focus products on good shelves
Block IntegrityDid you keep a brand as one block
Facing ShareDid you give facings in line with the target share
Category FlowAre the segments in order
Reference ComplianceHow close to a given standard layout
Shelf FillDid you use the shelf efficiently
These criteria often conflict: giving one brand eye level can split a competitor's block. The whole point is to strike that balance.

If you play as a team

If your instructor put you on a team, you build one shelf together. Only one person edits at a time — we call it the pen. A banner at the top shows who holds it.

Team mode is about negotiation: you take turns with the pen and discuss the layout together — like a real category meeting.

Good to know

Build the shelf, see what the decision costs.
